Satya Larrea, C-IAYT

I rolled out my first yoga mat in 1993. I took my first 200 hour yoga teacher training and eventually led yoga teacher trainings, starting in 1997 at Shoshoni Yoga Retreat in Rollinsville, CO.  I have continued my yoga education ever since attending and leading yoga workshops, conferences and retreats for yoga, yoga therapy and mindfulness meditation.

Currently, I lead groups in Yoga, Qigong, and Mindfulness at the Eating Recovery Center/Pathlight Mood and Anxiety Center, in Denver. I guide individuals while in their recovery process with mental illness and eating disorders, teaching them breathing techniques, embodiment practices, and how to slow down to become more mindful in their daily life.

One of the most meaningful lessons my practice has taught me is that slower isn't less—it's often deeper. Earlier in my teaching journey, I was devoted to a vigorous Vinyasa practice. Over time, I found myself drawn to gentler Hatha yoga, then Qigong, and eventually Yin yoga. As I slowed down, something unexpected happened: my own anxiety softened, my awareness expanded, and I discovered a depth of presence that had been missing when I was always striving or moving quickly.

This evolution shaped my personal philosophy and the way I teach. Slow, intentional movement invites us to listen more carefully, feel more subtly, and cultivate a steadiness that extends beyond the mat. The practice becomes less about doing and more about being. In that quiet space, we can reconnect with ourselves, regulate our nervous systems, and experience greater ease in both body and mind. What begins as a movement practice gradually becomes a way of meeting everyday life with more patience, clarity, and presence.
